The Estelle Wenrick Wetlands is primarily an unimproved park, suitable for
enjoying nature at its best. It is home to many species of birds and animals, with
an abundance of wetland plants and flowers.
The Clark County Park District recently acquired an additional 85 acres of land
south of and adjacent to the Wenrick Wetlands. The parcel of land is bounded by
Spangler Rd. and Union Rd.
This acquisition is significant because it preserves habitat that transitions from the
wooded wetlands to open fields, and it adjoins the approximately 10 acres that
were acquired last year. This brings the total area associated with the Wenrick
Wetlands to 249 acres.
Entrance to the park is from the S. Union Rd. parking lot to the east, or Medway
Park to the west. A walking trail along the former railbed is easily accessed from
the Union Rd. lot and traverses the length of the park to Medway Park.
A large heron rookery at
the Wenrick Wetlands is
visible from Spangler Rd.
in early spring.
