Fire Cadets
The Bethel Township Fire Cadet program is for young
people ages 13 to 18, who attend Tecumseh Local Schools or
belong to a legitimate home school program.
Students will learn about everything that is firefighting and
emergency medical services. Not only does this provide teens
an appropriate and constructive means of performing
community service, but it can provide them with the skills they
need to pursue a career.
Subjects include equipment and tools, fire safety and
prevention, first aid and CPR – and that’s just a sample of the
many subjects covered. Physical fitness is also a big area of
training, as fire trainings require strength and agility. Being in
perfect shape is not a requirement, but cadets must be willing
to work hard – both physically and mentally.
Many of our former cadets have gone on to become
members of the department or have obtained career
firefighting jobs. Dayton, Fairborn, Monroe and Xenia are just
a few of the cities where some of our past cadets are
employed.
With the training they receive, cadets who perform well will
be permitted to ride on fire apparatus to working scenes;
house fires, motor vehicle accidents, etc. At the age of 16,
cadets can ride on the ambulances and assist EMT’s with
patient care.
There are no fees to join, however there are the
occasional fund raisers to help with uniforms and supplies.
Cadets will also participate in community service projects that
can count towards high school graduation credit.
The Bethel Township Fire Department serves the residents
of Bethel Township and surrounding areas through mutual aid
agreements. Last year we responded to 2,000 fire and
emergency medical calls, as well as service calls.
Meetings are held every Friday night at 1800 hours at
Station 51, located at 11100 Gerlaugh Rd. For more
