The Clark County Commissioners voted June 21 to award $35,750 in Community Development Block Grant funds to Bethel Township for improvements at Crystal Lakes Park. Following state approval, that mount has now been increased to $45,000.
Additionally, the township has been awarded a $17,450 Nature Works grant for use at this park. This grant was originally sought for FY 2006 but was not awarded then, thus other sources of funding were sought. The township will provide $5,800 in local matching funds, bringing the total for use at this park to over $68,000.
The initial request was for funds to replace the deteriorated parking area in front of this park. With the additional funding we can now install a retaining wall, a paved pathway, and a covered picnic area; add tables, benches and some playground equipment; and do extensive landscaping improvements. Engineering is being provided by the Clark County Engineers Office, and the project will be done in summer 2008.
Several suggestions have already been given by Crystal Lakes residents for additions to this park. If you would like to add your views please call us at 845-1341 or contact us by email.
This park has been created to enhance the appearance of one of the main entrances into the community, and to provide a small greenspace area for use by local residents.
Bethel Township provides maintenance of the park, and the Medway Area Historical Society has been planting flowers and weeding the gardens since the park was created. Residents are welcome to help with this effort.
